Embracing the Digital Revolution

Message from Shawn McClafferty, Owner and Operator of Think Designs:

At Think Designs, we’ve always believed in embracing the ever-evolving landscape of technology and staying ahead of the curve when it comes to the latest trends. Today, I want to share a personal perspective on the incredible transformation we’ve witnessed in the world of marketing, through my lens as both the owner and operator of Think Designs and as a seasoned designer.

The journey began back in 1991 when the first web page came into existence, laying the foundation for what we now know as the Internet. Little did we know then that this digital realm would forever reshape how we communicate, work, and engage with the world. My own journey in design began in 1995 when I graduated from Pittsburgh Technical Institute with a background in print design. It provided me with a strong foundation for design, but it was in 1999, when I enrolled in an “Introduction to HTML Publish” class at Wake Technical Institute, that I ventured into the world of creating web pages. It was a moment that ignited my passion for digital marketing.

Digital marketing has brought about a seismic shift in the marketing landscape. No longer can businesses hide behind traditional methods like brochures, TV ads, or radio. The new era is characterized by transparency, with reviews, feedback, and insights readily available to all. Platforms like Google, Yelp, and Facebook empower everyone to share their experiences and opinions about businesses. To my fellow business owners, here’s a piece of advice: Embrace this transparency. Acknowledge every review, whether positive or critical and address any concerns offline. You’d be surprised how many negative reviews can be attributed to disgruntled employees or misunderstandings.

Recently, I dined at a Puerto Rican restaurant that actively encouraged customers to leave reviews on Tripadvisor. They even included a QR code on the bill for quick and easy review submission. It’s a testament to how businesses are leveraging technology to engage with their customers and gather valuable feedback.

As for me, I’m an active member of the Google Local Guides community. Google Local Guides are individuals who contribute to Google Maps by writing reviews, sharing photos, answering questions, and verifying facts about local places. It’s my way of giving back and helping others discover the best of what our community has to offer.

Emerging technologies, such as Chat GPT, have also transformed the digital landscape, enhancing our ability to communicate and engage with audiences in innovative ways.

In closing, I’m reminded of a valuable piece of wisdom from my corporate days: “The only time you shouldn’t accept change is from a vending machine, thank you, Mr. Baxley!” A saying that underscores the importance of embracing change in an ever-evolving landscape. Here’s to the exciting journey ahead, where creativity meets innovation, and success knows no bounds
